We are all flakey.

We are all messy.

We can’t keep books.

We are bad at business.

We are never on time.

We are unorganized.

We are happy about donating our artwork for “exposure”.

We expect grants for our projects.

We need galleries, managers, social media, and publishers.

I took a venue to small claims court a few years ago and, as nice as the settlement was, I was more interested in destroying these myths for the people I took to court. It’s very satisfying to know that they’ll think twice before assuming that an artist is any of the above!

Gwenn – thank you so much for your comment and sharing your experience. Sticking up for ourselves is a major part of being an Artist. That’s some pretty great myth-busting you did!

I WISH I were a “Myth Buster”…. but, I was only able to disclaim a couple:)

Even claiming one makes you a member of the Order of Myth-Busters, Diane! We choose the stories of which we want to be a part of, and our free will is our guide. I definitely can’t claim a “tick” on each one, but they are all stories that interest me, or ones that I wish I was a part of. Have a wonderful day!
